Infection
control is not new to the practice of medicine, but it has taken on
a new urgency in recent years in light of the resurgence of tuberculosis,
the development of antibiotic-resistant strains of common bacteria,
and the increased awareness of the threat of biological warfare. This
course goes beyond the Standard Precautions to address effective infection
control practices against a wide variety of infectious agents in a wide
variety of healthcare settings, including home care, long term care,
and the dental office.
Course objectives include:
List infection control equipment, supplies and precautions
required by law to be provided within the healthcare environment.
Identify the clinical manifestations, signs and symptoms
of infection.
Outline the nurse's role in the management of infection
control practices.
